Montesi
Sebastian Montesi has been boxing at Contenders since 2005. In 2010, Kevin Reynolds and Richard Pelcz invited him to become an instructor and personal trainer at Contenders. Despite being an adept boxer himself, Sebastian hasn’t lost touch of the importance of taking the time to get things right by focusing on the fundamentals of boxing technique. Sebastian combines his knowledge and experience to elevate anyone who is serious about becoming a competitive boxer. He’s been extremely involved in sparring and coaching our amateur boxing team, helping our fighters get ready to take the next step in their boxing careers.

Tell us about your teaching philosophy. Who were you mentors and biggest influencers?
I believe in taking the time to get things right; adhere to the process and the results will follow. I learnt my teaching style from Kevin and Richard. I take both from the meticulous, detailed approach they prescribe in the gym, and also from the “go and get it” mentality that Kevin evokes when cornering a fight.
What advice do you have for someone considering boxing as a discipline?
Step outside of your comfort zone and discover that you can not only try, but be good at something you never thought you’d do. Boxing rewards repetition, and with time anybody can become a skilled boxer or athlete.
Tell us something we don’t know about you.
I play in a death metal band called Auroch. We’ve toured all over Europe and North America, which is great because travelling is my other passion in life.
